In order to obtain a possession licence in QLD, there are three main requirements that must be considered.
1. What type of radiation equipment do you require.
2. What are the hazards associated with the use of the equipment?
3. How are you going to manage the hazards?
Tailored Radiation Safety & Protection Plans. (RSPPs)
In addition to identifying the hazards, you must have clear and concise procedures that specify; what kind of routine maintenance is required, how you are going to ensure that the Radiation Safety & Protection Plan is complied with; what type of training will need to be provided to employees, users, visitors and any other person involved in the Radiation Practice.
On September 1st 2021, the new Queensland Radiation Safety Regulation and associated Radiation Safety Standards were adopted into the legislation.
There are now only two (2) Radiation Safety Standards that encompass sources used in industry. As all of our clients are industry-based, these are the standards that must be complied with.
The first standard is the new standard for premises.
“Standard for premises — Ionising Radiation Sources (2021)” The second standard is the new standard for sources used in industry.
“Standard for radiation sources—industrial, mining, manufacturing, and other practices (2021)”
